Considering that she was the first Sue Storm\/Invisible Woman of my generation, it\u2019s funny to think that I am discussing Jessica Alba after Kate Mara. To think that this film came out in the early 2000s and that there is now a whole generation who potentially do not know it exists, truly hurts me. I watched the most recent version, Fantastic Four: First Steps <\/em>and for me, Vanessa Kirby isn\u2019t a patch on Alba however I definitely think both that and Rise of the Silver Surfer <\/em>dragged A LOT!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honey<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

              I\u2019ll be honest, I put this film off for ages because I assumed it was just another dance film with big routines and not much underneath. Having finally watched it, I realised there is an actual story running through it \u2014 and for me, that improved the film for me on the whole. Jessica steps into the role of Honey Daniels, a dancer with big dreams who suddenly finds herself catapulted into the spotlight thanks to Michael Ellis. Sure, her rise to fame feels a little too convenient, but I guess that\u2019s typical of these types of films. The great thing about her character however, is that she never truly forgets where she came from, still helping the two boys she meets early in the film – helping them deal with their rough home life & the drug dealer Benny ends up involved with. I think it\u2019s also really important to note that Alba actually learned to dance in order to take on the role of Honey as she had no dance background going into the film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Never Been Kissed<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

              It\u2019s always tough to watch a film for an actor that isn\u2019t the main character because you sit there wondering when they even going to appear. This is, however, the only film where Jessica plays a villain, albeit a high school one. If I\u2019m honest, you just have to look at her to know that this is a 90s film what with the haircut and garish orange jacket. Even though Kirstin and her friends become Josie\u2019s, our lead character, mission to get her first story as a proper journalist, with all the flashbacks to her past experience at high school \u2013 Alba\u2019s role as Kirstin is a small role for the majority of the film! Her character wasn\u2019t even at the party where Josie tried to make herself popular and they barely seem to interact until an hour into the film. I have to admit, I was slightly expecting this film to be more of a 90s Mean Girls <\/em>and it be about a high school student losing their virginity or experiencing their first kiss \u2013 not about a journalist returning to high school. I think if it had been the other way around, Alba\u2019s character would been much bigger, and little bit of a Regina George.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

P.U.N.K.S<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

              I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s typical 90s acting or the way this was filmed but it reminded me a lot of Malcolm in the Middle <\/em>in a way. It\u2019s main focus is on Drew and his friends trying to find a way to get the better of their bullies as well as save his dad\u2019s job and life. With that, I started to think that Jessica wasn\u2019t going to have much of a part in the grand scheme of things but she plays a pretty significant role in the boys getting to the Crow Industries lab. Having said that, once they\u2019re inside, she doesn\u2019t really have much of an effect on the outcome and them stealing the suit. However, she is just referred to as “Drew\u2019s love interest\u201d but there\u2019s no clear evidence that Drew even has a crush on her. It\u2019s almost as if this is the only way they could describe a female character in a group like this. Her accent though, just a warning, is pretty annoying! But I guess considering this was only her 3rd<\/sup> feature length film, it\u2019s something she had the opportunity to work on in later years. It\u2019s crazy to think that she was only 18 when she made this film, and she doesn\u2019t look any different in any of her later roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honorary Mentions<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

              I always thought that Jessica Alba was an unknown actress when she made Fantastic Four, <\/em>and maybe in the grand scheme of things she was, but it really took me by surprise that she starred as Nancy in Sin City <\/em>before this! She also starred in a film that I am dying to see for its comedy horror value and that is Idle Hands, <\/em>where she appears alongside Devon Sawa and Seth Green! I tried my best to get of her first ever film Camp Nowhere <\/em>and had assumed it was a TV film as I had no luck but it seems it did go to cinema in the 90s!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
