So, I know a lot of people are probably going to have questions over Winter Soldier’s inclusion as a Marvel hero but hear me out on this one. Yes, in his first appearance you may consider him a villain however, you need to consider that he isn’t doing what he is doing through choice. By the time Bucky/Winter Soldier is able to make his own choices – he fights alongside Captain America and Iron Man against Thanos becoming an Avenger and therefore…hero!

Black Swan

For about an hour into the film I was starting think I’d blinked and missed Sebastian’s role in this film. Then again, when we do finally meet his character of Andrew, he doesn’t actually last very long. He plays one of two men that Nina and Lily pick up in a bar but we never see him again. The interesting thing is, it is in that scene that I realised the story between Nina and Lily is mirroring the tale of the Black Swan.

Red Doors

Can I just state how young Sebastian looks even though he’s barely changed in the 10 years between this and becoming the Winter Soldier? In this quite sad story, he plays a role in Katie’s part of the tale. There’s a little comedic moment when she has been sent to the councillor regarding certain photos and he pops his head up at the window – reminded me a little of 10 Things I Hate About You. It took me a little while to realise he was playing Simon but when I did, it made the scene where Katie left the dildos on the bed even funnier. The interesting thing is that he doesn’t speak until 15 minutes from the end when all he says is “hi”

The Covenant

I feel like that they tried to give this film a Lost Boys feel but instead of being about vampires it’s a group of warlocks. I was expecting, mainly because his name came up early in the opening credits, that Sebastian was going to be one of the coven but you start to think that’s not the case until Kate mentions that the 5th family of Ipswich, that each of the main characters are descended from, was killed off…straight away made me suspicious that Chase probably is the 5th son. You can definitely tell Sebastian had some work on his ‘bad guy’ act as his aggressive tone is a little bit weak.

Honorary Mentions

Now, I actually thought Captain America: First Avenger (yes, I know he isn’t Winter Soldier until Captain America: Winter Soldier but First Avenger is the first time I was ever introduced to him) was Sebastian Stan’s first real acting role. It turns out however along with the above, he also played a part in Hot Tub Time Machine and a film called Spread where he starred alongside Ashton Kutcher.
