Here’s something I didn’t know – in Guardians of the Galaxy, the writers had actually changed Peter Quill’s (AKA Star Lord) backstory. In the films, he is the son of Meredith Quill and Ego (who later tries to use his son to carry out his evil plan) but in comic book reality, he is the son of Meredith and J’son. Additionally, Meredith doesn’t die of cancer – she is killed by soldiers who were trying to kill Peter and end his father’s bloodline.

Zero Dark Thirty

OK, so you wait at least 2 hours before Chris Pratt even shows his face. In this film’s defence, his character wouldn’t be relevant any earlier than this. However, maybe not his character but the team he forms part of, are actually one of the most important things about this film. In all honesty, I thought he had appeared much earlier in the film as there was someone who sounded a hell of a lot like him! But then I looked up what DEVGRU stood for, and worked out that I had to be wrong. Truthfully I wasn’t surprised that he turned out to be what can only be described as the joker of the team (watch any film like this, with soldiers, there is always a joker – trust me) because that seems to be what Pratt is known for.

What’s Your Number

It seems that when Chris Pratt starred in Guardians of the Galaxy, his trim figure has meant any earlier roles of his are looked upon as “fat Chris Pratt” – like Parks and Recreation for example.  This is not the case…I have seen a fat Chris Pratt. OK, it’s a fat suit but still! He plays a character called Disgusting Doug, an ex of Ally’s who has gone from being ‘disgusting’ to being hot – giving her the idea that she could start dating one of her exes again so she doesn’t have to go over 20 lovers because you can’t count them more than once. At first I thought this was going to be his only scene and I was starting to wish I had used this film for Chris Evans. It would have been much more fun writing about the douchey character he’s playing! The funny thing is, Evans and Pratt are 2 of 3 Marvel actors in this film – as Anthony Mackie also plays one of the exes.

10 Years

As I’m sure you can tell, it was VERY hard to find a film prior to Guardians were Pratt had a lead role but this is the closest we’ll get as he is part of an ensemble cast along with Channing Tatum and Justin Long. His character, Cully, is the only one that has completely settled down with a wife and kids. Not only does he star alongside his TV wife from Parks and Recreation,Aubrey Plaza, but also alongside future Marvel star Anthony Mackie. He spends the majority of the film trying to make up for the wrongs he did in high school but unfortunately fails miserably. The only thing for me, is that I spent the majority of this film wondering if it was actually his wife’s idea for him to spend the majority of the reunion making up for his past instead of his. Now, I’m not denying his character is an arsehole but it should be his choice to change.

Honorary Mentions

Obviously I’ve mentioned it twice already, but one of Chris Pratt’s earliest TV roles was Parks and Recreation where he plays the rather dopey character of Andy Dwyer but that’s his well-known TV role. Little did I know he had also appeared in The OC. I’ve also seen Jennifer’s Body at least twice and didn’t realise that Pratt played the police officer.
