WARNING: This Article May Contain Spoilers

As you will go on to discover, I never actually planned on writing this article. I had seen very few of Oscar Isaac’s work so was unaware that the man could even sing. Its funny how writing one article, can lead you into writing another isn’t it?

10 Years

So, this film is actually the reason for this article. I was watching it for Chris Pratt but how could I not when Oscar sang so beautifully! Honestly, I did not realise this guy was going to have such a good voice. Yes, he plays a singer but for the majority of the film, because he seems rather shy about his own fame, you don’t expect him to actually sing but when he does he does it for the most beautiful reason. The whole night, his character of Reeves is chatting with Elise, a girl he has had a crush on since school, who has never heard his song which turns out to be about her!

Life Itself

I’m going to be honest, this film starts out quite odd – especially with the Samuel L Jackson narration but after this it becomes rather dark in places. Reading about this film, I wondered how Oscar’s singing lends itself to the role of screenwriter but I love the way they included it in this film. Unlike the other two films on this list, the singing isn’t perfect – more the drunken vocals of an alcoholic. But then, that is exactly how we meet his character of Will, an alcoholic screenwriter instead of a singer. Now, this is actually the only time Oscar sings in the whole film, and after about 40 minutes of it, we actually don’t see him again. I said this film was dark so I will let you guys figure out why.

Inside Llewyn Davis

I’m going to be honest, I actually thought this was going to be a biographical film but turns out Llewyn Davis doesn’t exist! He’s a fictional character based loosely on Dave Van Ronk. You don’t have to wait long as the film opens with Oscar singing Hang Me Oh, Hang Me,which was arranged by T. Bone Burnett and Oscar Isaac himself. The film spans a week in Llewyn’s life – the main plot being him trying to get his singing career off the ground but includes all the ups and downs along the way, like looking after or tracking down the Gorfeins’ cat. Funnily enough, Oscar actually stars alongside a previous appearance in my If Music Be the Food of Love – Act On section, Justin Timberlake.
